If you could do anything...

Easter is over and I am getting back in the swing of things including reading resumes and interviewing candidates for the Tech Staff here at The Crossing. The application process is one of the best that I have been a part on….applying or hiring.

One of my favorite questions I ask is one I actually stole from my boss. While I usually get the geeky, nerdy answer there have been a few I enjoy. So let me ask you….

If you could do anything, without fail and financial considerations covered, what would it be?

shaking things up....

This morning an earthquake measured 5.2 Rictor scale woke most of the Midwest. I didn’t get in from church doing our set change till about 2 in the morning so I was out cold when it all happened. I did however get to experience a 4.2 aftershock this morning while standing in our church auditorium. It was quite eerie. I have never experienced an earthquake or anything like it before. Fortunately, its nothing like what you hear about on the West Coast.

With all of the rain we have had here in St Louis in the last month or two lawns are green and lush and flowers are blossoming. I am so ready to get behind all this crazy weather. I spent a few hours this morning out in the yard mowing and trimming. I think this is the earliest in the year I remember getting the lawn mower out.

beautiful art.....

I am not an art student though I appreciate good art. I don't have a list of favorite artists but have always loved the work of Jackson Pollock. Called an abstract expressionist, Pollock developed what was later called his "drip" technique.

I think I resonate with Pollock's work because his style gives me permission to think I could create amazing pieces of art as he had. One of my favorite pieces of his is called 'Free Form'.

When I get in the mood to be creative I pull out the virtual paint and canvas at http://jacksonpollock.org/ and create my own masterpieces.

funniest church moment...ever

OK....yea, I know - it's been a while. I just haven't really had time to blog...nor have I had anything to blog about...or even wanted to (sorry, I really do like you - just not in the mood). Actually it has been a while since I have even opened my Google reader to catch up on my favorite blogs. So tonight, I thought I would atleast get caught up on my blog reading.

I came across what may be the funniest church moment on video. Carlos Whittaker (remember, my Goal:...yea i need to get back in the groove) posted THIS VIDEO on his blog. I fell over laughing....I'm still laughing - I had to share it.

I think that may have put me back in the mood!

the speed of....

Ok… I get, and actually appreciate, this ‘fast’ world we live in. The microwave oven, the express lane and now the self checkout lane, fast food and the drive thru, news at the click of a remote of computer button and even Tivo allowing us to skip the commercials within our favorite TV show….it’s all good in my book.

But there are certain things in life you have to take time and enjoy. My kids, spending that ‘away time’ with my wife that comes only far and few times a year, a 16oz prime rib with au jus and french fries with a glass of ice tea and a good game of Monopoly. Unfortunately, even this fast paced world has a grip on this classic board game.

Walking through Walmart tonight I came upon an isle end cap with this version of Monopoly proudly displayed. Monopoly Speed Die edition. Come on folks. We can’t sit down anymore to even play a game of Monopoly? We need the Speed Die edition so we can ‘play faster’?

Is this the new way to get-rich-quick?

the good ole days..........

Remember the good ole days? The good ole days of computer games, that is. The golden age of innovative arcade games like Pacman, Astroids and Donkey Kong. I do. All those memories came rushing back to mind with I found this. I still miss those cartridges and joysticks though.

lost, love and soul.....

I have not yet jumped on the LOST bandwagon – the plot never intrigued me. I much rather watch Survivor. At least all that back biting and plot twists end up winning someone a million dollars. But I am watching this rerun finale that includes on-screen back story and facts of the show. One, to see if I can actually get into the show but two because our Lead Pastor at The Crossing wanted us to pay attention to the lower crawl of info and see how that enhances our experience. As we look toward doing church distributed (multi-site) we need to find creative ways to communicate and engage folks that would off-set the lack of interaction that our communicators facilitate so well. So hopefully I will get LOST one way or another.

So we have a new member on the team. I love her....we all do. Her name is Lulu. She is gorgeous. She is in her forties. Incredible body and pearly whites and man can she wail. WOW. This B3 organ is a great addition to the team. She is on loan from a very good friend. She has been totally refurbished for another job but we have her in the mean time. I can’t wait to mic her leslie cabinet, focus some blue light on her and set a B-shot camera on her keys to grab those great shots of the player sliding down the keys. Pics and possible video coming after the weekend.

and now the news....

I mentioned that I had some news. No, we are not expecting another little one or anything like that.

Leadership has approved us hiring an Associate Technical Arts Director. Job description is here and instructions to apply can be found here. This position will work closely with me and our tech teams in daily prep and weekend worship production needs. We are also in the process of bringing in our part time Assistant Technical Director that will lead our team in our Loft Experience during the weekend services. All this due to our growth and strategic plans to accomodate growth and reach more people for Christ.

We also have an intership program with year long and summer interns. The Crossing is a great enviorment for gaining both technical and ministry experience. You can email hr@wcrossing.org to request an application packet.
